Every August, Budapest transforms into a cultural hotspot as it hosts the iconic Sziget Festival on Óbudai-sziget—a leafy island nestled in the Danube River. More Than Just Music
Sziget isn’t just about the beats—it’s a full-on cultural experience. Expect immersive art installations, creative workshops, a chill-out beach zone, and surprise pop-ups all over the island. Whether it’s jazz tents, circus acts, or international food stalls, Sziget blends music with a celebration of global culture.
The festival has hosted legends like Iggy Pop, and its eclectic programming draws fans from all over the world—nearly 50% of attendees come from outside Hungary, particularly from the Netherlands, UK, Germany, France, and beyond.
Its one-of-a-kind setting even inspires some fans to paddle or swim across the Danube—a tradition that’s more symbolic than recommended, as organizers emphasize safety due to the river’s strong currents.

Legacy & Expansion
Sziget’s influence stretches beyond Hungary. In 2002, organizers co-founded Félsziget Festival in Romania, and in 2007 they helped launch Balaton Sound, an electronic music festival by Lake Balaton that quickly became a major hit. The festival’s legacy has earned it multiple accolades, including Best Major European Festival (twice) and a place among Europe’s Top 5 Festivals, according to The Independent.
In 2024, American private equity firm KKR acquired the company behind Sziget, further signaling the festival’s global importance and continued growth.
With a capacity of 92,000 and peak attendance reaching 565,000, Sziget continues to define what it means to be free, united, and inspired through music. If you’re looking for a world-class festival in the heart of Europe, Sziget 2025 is calling your name.
